Beloved Nollywood actress Mercy Johnson-Okojie has candidly addressed recent concerns about her significant weight loss, revealing a personal health journey that included a cancer scare and the removal of her thyroid.


In a heartfelt conversation with veteran actress Joke Silva, Johnson-Okojie shared details of her experience. “I had a cancer scare and I had my thyroid removed,” she disclosed, shedding light on the reasons behind her changed physique.


The actress emphasized the impact on her family, particularly with a young child. “It was like a journey for us because we have kids and my lastborn was six months old at that time,” she explained, highlighting the collaborative approach she and her husband took. “We kept saying, we had to understand this is the new us, let’s go get the surgery done.”
Johnson-Okojie also spoke about the adjustments required post-surgery, including lifelong medication and potential side effects. “When we got there, they said that I was going to be on medication for the rest of my life. We had to sit down, they were saying I can’t miss my medication, telling me the side effects.”


Reflecting on her present state, the actress conveyed a sense of acceptance and resilience. “So, I’m reconciling with this, you are saying [my weight loss]. I’m at the point where you realised that this is where we are, let’s grow from here and live in this comfort zone.”
