Zamafara: Zamfara Banditry, IGP, DG DSS, NIA & DIA Visit the state , Matawale Appreciates

The effort of Governor Bello Matawale of Zamfara state in restoring peace, orderly to Zamfara state will soon yield a positive as President Muhammadu Buhari has dispatched top security chiefs to interface with stakeholders in Zamfara on the lingering security challenges in the state and the entire northwest.
The northwest has been under siege by bandits who have been attacking local communities across the region.
The president’s directive was revealed by the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammad Adamu on Thursday, July 16.
The IGP made the revelation when he and other top security chiefs visited the Emir of Gusau, Ibrahim Bello.
Mr Adamu made the disclosure when the security chiefs paid a courtesy visit to the Emir of Gusau, Ibrahim Bello, at his palace in Gusau on Thursday.
“Mr President gave us a matching order to stop the current insecurity in this region.”
In his remark, the emir thanked the security chiefs for the visit and pledged that the traditional institution would continue assisting them in their efforts to get rid of the criminals.
“We appreciate the efforts of security agencies, we want to advise that there is a need to strategise and adopt new measures in addressing the situation,” Bello said.
Those on the entourage of the IGP include by Director-General of the Department of State Security Service, Yusuf Magaji, his counterpart in National Intelligence Agency, Ahmad Rufai and Chief of Defence Intelligence, AVM Muhammed Saliu.
Security experts had raised an alarm that insecurity is escalating in the northwest region, with daily killings and kidnappings by armed bandits.
Thousands of people have been displaced by the crisis, while some villages have been abandoned.
“The authorities’ failure to act has left villagers in Zamfara at the mercy of armed bandits, who have killed hundreds of people over the course of two bloody years,” said Osai Ojigho, Director of Amnesty International Nigeria.
In the last decade, more than 8,000 people have been killed in the states of Kebbi, Sokoto, Niger and Zamfara, according to the International Crisis Group.
Already, recent attacks in President Buhari’s home state of Katsina, led to violent protests and calls for his resignation.
To rescue the situation, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen Tukur Yusuf Buratai, on Monday, June 29 announced that he has relocated to Katsina following continuous attacks on the state by bandits.

Buratai said he is in the state to coordinate activities of the new Operation Sahel Sanity, designed to flush out bandits terrorising parts of the northwest zone.
‘‘I came here two days ago and we will be here for some time to coordinate activities of the troops here in order to get some succour and also be able to resolve some of the challenges,’’ Buratai told Governor Aminu Masari during a courtesy call.
