You want to give state police to Nyesom Wike or the fellow in Kogi, Yahaya Bello? -Falana Speaks

by

Femi Falana, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, has cautioned against a hasty demand for state police in Nigeria

In a video shared on YouTube by Sahara TV, Falana questioned the prospect of entrusting such authority to individuals like former Governor Nyesom Wike and Governor Yahaya Bello. He expressed concern about the possible misuse of State Police powers and the need for careful consideration

Falana also made it known that in the Nigerian constitution, there is nothing like “Federal Government Police” and what the constitution recognizes is “Federation Police”

In Falana’s words: “You want to give state police to Nyesom Wike or the fellow in Kogi, Yahaya Bello? … So when we are talking of State Police, Nigeria constitution quote me does not recognize it, there is no federal government police in Nigeria. What we have is a Federation Police which the governors have abdicated their constitutional responsibility by sharing police power with the president”
