Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has taken action against the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, by reporting him to the National Security Adviser (NSA) and President Bola Tinubu over allegations of involvement with banditry in the state. Governor Lawal claims that both the NSA and President Tinubu are aware of the situation and have been presented with evidence.
The controversy arises after Matawalle, a former Zamfara governor, denied any connections to bandits in the state. In a recent interview, Matawalle challenged Governor Lawal and General Ali Gusau (retd.) to swear by the Holy Quran that they have no involvement in the ongoing banditry crisis in Zamfara and the North-West region.
Lawal’s Chief Press Secretary, Sulaiman Idris, refuted Matawalle’s claims, stating that evidence against him will soon be made public. Idris emphasized that Governor Lawal had already sworn by the Quran and expressed his desire for justice to prevail against those responsible for the banditry.
The unfolding situation highlights the escalating tensions and accusations surrounding the alleged involvement of government officials in addressing the security challenges posed by banditry in Zamfara State.
