The Yagba Action Group (YAG), a coalition of professionals and technocrats from the three Yagba local council areas in Kogi State, held a meeting with Senator Sunday Karimi, representing Kogi West, on Sunday. The meeting aimed to discuss various developmental issues affecting the constituency and seek the senator’s support in addressing them.
Led by Dr. Tunde Olusunle, a former presidential adviser and media scholar, the group deliberated on the socio-economic challenges facing the region, including road infrastructure, agriculture, healthcare, education, empowerment, and security. They emphasized the need for a comprehensive socio-economic plan to uplift the living standards of the people.
The group commended the synergy between Senator Karimi and Representative Leke Abejide in addressing issues of concern to the people of the constituency, particularly the rehabilitation of the Kabba-Egbe-Omuaran-Ilorin federal road. However, they called for more action towards ensuring the outright reconstruction of all non-motorable accesses within Okunland.

YAG acknowledged Senator Karimi’s initiatives, including the construction of a military facility to tackle kidnapping and banditry, as well as his annual bursary scheme and revolving facility for small-scale businesses. They also appreciated his contributions to the lawmaking process, but demanded more bills and motions with direct relevance to the needs of the people in the senatorial district.
The group proposed involving stakeholders in the senatorial district in the process of initiating and analyzing bills through periodic Town Hall Meetings. They expressed willingness to work with Senator Karimi to address the identified issues and improve the socio-economic well-being of the people.
In response, Senator Karimi thanked the group for the visit and promised to work on the position paper presented by YAG, ensuring that all issues raised are addressed. He also expressed readiness to engage and work with other groups of stakeholders in Kogi West towards improved governance and enhanced service delivery.
