COMMISERATION
The gory sights and scenes coming-out of the carnage from the tragic fire accident occasioned by a Road Traffic Accident (RTA) involving a tanker laden with Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) yesterday, September 23, 2020, is another episode of awful proportions which has further furnished our unenviable statistics of avoidable deaths.
I saw clip from a video where a lady, with third degree burns, was screaming and helplessly rolling on the ground while passersby and hangers-on watched and even had the luxury of videoing her (someone’s wife, sister, daughter, aunty, mother, friend and/or benefactor) last moments as she agonizes to death. I have not stopped asking; what has happened to our humanity and humanness? Of course, there are oral reports of some ‘heroic’ engagements, and I am confident that our God who sees the unseen, shall reward such, in the open and in the fullness of time.
While I pray for the hasty recovery of the injured, I extend my deepest sympathy and condolences to the bereaved families and pray that Almighty God grants them the fortitude needed at this time of deep grief.
To the rest of us, “lucky” to be alive, we must ceaselessly realize that life is a privilege and death a debt we must pay. These should guide our thoughts and actions because we are in no way better than all who died, and it could have been you or I.
