Award-winning Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has achieved yet another milestone by winning a Grammy award.

At the 67th Grammy Awards held at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on Sunday, February 2, 2025, the Afrobeat sensation took home the award for Best African Music Performance for her hit song “Love Me Jeje.”

Tems triumphed over notable artists including Yemi Alade for “Tomorrow,” Asake for “MMS,” Chris Brown for “Sensational,” and Burna Boy for “Higher.”

This year, Tems received three nominations, bringing her total career nominations to eight. Her latest win marks her second Grammy; she previously won the Best Melodic Rap Performance category in 2023 for her contribution to the hit song “Wait for U,” alongside Future and Drake.

Here are some reactions to her victory:

• Samvail commented, “We were all expecting Davido to win, but God knows best. Congratulations to Tems, she’s still our own.”
• Blaaq Butterfly expressed, “OMG!! She did it!! Congratulations, we are super proud of you!”
• Kenzo6435 questioned, “What does Tems even sing?”
• Anosike Emmanuel simply stated, “Congratulations to her. No noise.”
• Bshdesse added, “Better to avoid fanbase drama.”
• Justhair_trancasworld remarked, “Grammy keeps playing and getting it wrong. I like Tems, but that song is not Grammy-worthy.”
• Gabriella Fassi shared, “So happy for her. The Grammy committee doesn’t know the kind of peace they’ve helped preserve in Nigeria.”
• PeixOne noted, “Wizkid is gonna be happy tonight.”
• Uche Success Dickson quipped, “Let’s acknowledge that it’s a woman winning, so let’s hear it for the men!”

In a recent interview, rapper and singer Tochukwu Odumodublvck made a surprising revelation about Tems and fellow artist Ayra Starr. He claimed that the reason they wear oversized clothing to the studio is to deter unwanted advances, stating that Tems just wants to focus on her music while navigating the pressures of the industry. He encouraged both artists to remain steadfast in their faith.

Congratulations to Tems on her remarkable achievement!
