We Want Our Own State: ODA Seeks Creation Of Okun State, Lobbies Abejide

The Okun Development Association (ODA) has reaffirmed its dedication to the aspirations of the Yoruba speaking people of Kogi state, particularly the creation of Okun State.

ODA President General, Amb. Rotimi Akenson, led a joint delegation to meet with Hon. Leke Abejide, member representing Yagba federal constituency, in the National Assembly. The delegation discussed the ongoing constitution review exercise and its impact on the agitation for Okun state.

Akenson presented a memo representing the wishes and aspirations of Okun people worldwide for the creation of Okun state. He commended Hon. Abejide’s contributions to delivering democracy dividends across Okun land.

In response, Hon. Abejide advised intensifying efforts to garner concurrence from other Okun-speaking people in neighboring states. As a member of the House’s Constitution Review Committee, he assured his readiness to sponsor a bill for the creation of Okun state.

The meeting was attended by Dr. David Atteh, Chief J.O. Yusuf, Hon. Dayo Akanmode, and Hon. Bolanle Amupitan, all members of the ODA.
