The Chief Medical Director, University of Abuja Teaching Hospital UATH, Professor Bissala Ekele says the Federal government approach to address the global pandemic of COVID-19 was commendable,with availability of test, treatment and isolation centre in the Hospital located at the seat of government.
Professor Bissala Ekele who bare his mind says the presence of these equipment and a robust isolation centre, to service both far and near, had reduced to the barest minimum the negative consequences of the global pandemic.
The political will combined with the professional approach of the Management of the Hospital had brought the ailement under control in Nigeria.
‘We have all round the clock medical service even at weekend, a testing ground where procedures are carried out to know the status of COVID-19 free or infected persons’
‘Aside those who intend to know their status,other person’s with prerequisites, and those travelling out of the country also trooped into the department to know their status’. Professor Bissala Ekele said.
‘Our treatment and isolation centre is also well equipped with oxygen gas to address the challenges of COVID-19, as a new isolation centre is already built in the Hospital’
‘ The Management provided a conducive environment for the front line health workers attached to the treatment and isolation centre of the Hospital, by providing accommodation to those attached to the emergency areas.’
According to Bissala,with the willingness of Federal authorities combined with stakeholders and other well meaning Nigerians,the response has being very encouraging.
He appealed to Nigerians to avail themselves of the equipment provided by the government in the Hospital to patronise the tertiary health institution in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic.
The CMD urged Nigerians to however adhere strictly to the protocols of COVID-19 pandemic to avoid multiple complications.
