Governor Bello Mohammed has said that his administration inherited a state which was in total disarray but was able to correct the situation in only three months.

The Executive governor of Zamfara State Dr Bello Matawalle is winning the War against insurgents. Governor Bello Matawalle meet with the Chief of Army staff Gen. Burutai in Zamfara State.

He said this when he received the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Tukur Buratai who was in the state on a working tour.

Governor Matawalle recalled that the situation in Zamfara State was so bad that no road was plied and no markets were operational. In total apprehension and fear, people no longer went to the farm as well. The order of the day in the stae was abductions, maiming and killings.
However, the initiative of peace accord which was done with honesty, commitment and truthfulness brought about the relative peace enjoyed in the state in the last one year.

The peace accord, Matawalle told the Army Chief, led to the winning of the souls of over 80% of the then bandits in the state and its attendant good omen as they laid down their arms and repented. More than 1000 people were released without ransom and more than 150 dangerous weapons were also surrendered by the repentant bandits.
Governor Matawalle said the success of the peace accord led his administration to initiate an attempt at synergy with neighbouring States so that it can be replicated in the whole North-Western States.

The sole promise offered by his administration to the repentant bandits was the establishment of three Ruggas, one in each of the three Senatorial Districts of the state.
However, the resurgence of banditry across the entire zone was a source of concern which led the state Government to ally the carrot and Stick approach to the fight against banditry in the state. He welcome the increased presence of the Army in support of this approach.

Speaking earlier, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Tukur Buratai commended the state Governor for purchasing 200 operational vans in support of the Nigerian Security operatives in the state….
