The Southwest Zonal Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Olalekan Folorunsho, known as Lekan Salami, has issued a statement urging the Bola Tinubu-led government to intervene in the controversial election of Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, as NURTW President.
This comes after an Appeal Court ruling deemed the election of MC Oluomo in Osogbo, Osun State as invalid, upholding the re-election of Alhaji Tajudeen Ibikunle Baruwa as NURTW National President.
Salami clarified that MC Oluomo is not a member of the Union, having torn up his NURTW identity card in 2022 after being queried by national leadership. Despite this, Oluomo has not officially returned to the Union as required by the NURTW Constitution.
Additionally, former NURTW Secretary Alhaji Moshood Ajao was warned against falsely representing himself as a NURTW leader in Osun State, as only former Union Chairmen hold such positions.
Salami emphasized the importance of upholding the rule of law within the NURTW and urged the government to intervene to prevent further disruptions within the organization.
The Southwest NURTW Chairman’s statement underscored the need for accountability and adherence to established procedures to maintain the integrity of the Union.
