Tribunal sacks PDP lawmaker, orders supplementary election in 4 polling units

A PDP state lawmaker in Sokoto state, Sahabi Umar, has been sacked by the tribunal – The tribunal ordered INEC to withdraw Umar’s certificate of return and conduct supplementary election in four polling units – The petition challenging Umar’s election was filed by the APC candidate, Hon. Bature Mohammed Binji The Elections Petitions Tribunal sitting in Sokoto on Tuesday, September 17, sacked a member of of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Sahabi Umar, who was elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The tribunal , according to Daily Trust, ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to conduct supplementary elections in four Polling Units in the Binji Constituency of the State House of Assembly.
The affected polling units are: Rumfar Marina and Kusa Da Garkar Magaji Margai in Maikulki ward, Shiyyar Sarkin Aski in Binji ward and Tumunin Magaji in Soron Gabas ward. President Buhari reveals what would have happened if he had lost at tribunal The chairman of the tribunal, Justice Hamman Idi Polycarp, declared the election inconclusive. Polycarp ordered the withdrawal of the Certificate of Return issued to Umar, ruling that the declaration of Umar as the winner was premature, untimely, null and void.
The judge ruled that there was a substantial non-compliance that had affected the outcome of the election, stressing that there should have been supplementary polls. He noted that the margin of lead between Umar, who scored 11,995, and Bature with 10,580, was 1,415, which is less than the 2,378 registered voters in the four affected Polling Units. The petition challenging the March 9th election was filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Hon. Bature Mohammed Binji. Read more:
