Just like the Biblical prodigal son, the return of former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, to the All Progressives Congress, APC, has become sensational in the cyber space.
While it is expected, many saw the decamping of FFK as a form of betrayal and a defect on his person. Imagine a one-time APC critic now paying homage to the same party he once described as “Boko Haram sympathisers”.
The sudden marriage between APC and the prodigal son is such that every right-thinking member of the country sees as good riddance to bad rubbish following the antecedents that led to the happenings in recent time.
Fani-Kayode, being a politician with a good sense of politicking as rightly opined by his followers, ought to know that he who must sup with the devil should have a long spoon. FFK is best known for double standards in treating political gladiators in the past. Hence, he must convince Nigerians that his recent defection is truly motivated by his interest for the country and not by ill-desire.
Is APC now bankrolling Fani-Kayode?
Popular opinion termed the former minister’s defection to APC as having monetary gain. Reason: Fani-Kayode has been romancing with Kogi State Governor and some other APC leaders before news of his defection.
Recall Governor Yahaya Bello has been in the news with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged financial fraud in his state. Though the governor denied the allegation, EFCC has not relented in its investigation.
In his remarks, FFK described the Kogi State Governor as a man of integrity and profound decency, calling on the latter’s critics to desist from “peddling these specious lies and slanderous falsehood”. This is the same Yahaya Bello he (FFK) once insulted as being worse than “accursed slave”. What has really changed?
Though when asked if switching sides had any financial undertone, Fani-Kayode took exceptions and termed it “insulting”.
“I find that very insulting whether it is coming from you or my critics. I am not the first person that would decamp to the APC. Have you asked others this same question?” Fani-Kayode queried Channels TV reporter.
But what has light got to do with darkness, if there is nothing fishy in the cupboard? Fani-Kayode should know that Nigerians are more enlightened and they don’t need a seer to interpret the handwriting on the wall.
It is true there is no permanent enemy in politics, but we must accept the fact that we are solely responsible for our choice of actions, and posterity will always fight back in the long run.
Politics in Nigeria today has been turned to a ‘political market’ where politicians now transact in guise of being led by the ‘spirit of God’. This is now the new anthem in town. Truly, politics can be a dirty game!
