President Bola Tinubu has sworn in retired General Christopher Musa as Nigeria’s new Minister of Defence during a brief but high-level ceremony at the State House on Monday.
The appointment, which marks a significant shift in the nation’s security leadership, places the former Chief of Defence Staff at the helm of the country’s defence architecture at a time of persistent security challenges across several regions.
Speaking moments after the swearing-in, President Tinubu charged General Musa to bring his experience, discipline, and strategic insight to bear in strengthening Nigeria’s armed forces and delivering tangible results in the fight against terrorism, banditry, and other threats undermining national stability.
General Musa, known for his frontline counter-insurgency expertise and service record in the North-East theatre, pledged unwavering commitment to national security and readiness to work closely with all military and civilian stakeholders.
His inauguration completes a key component of the President’s ongoing security reforms aimed at enhancing coordination, intelligence-driven operations, and modernisation of defence capabilities.
