There is an increase in jailbreaks since renaming the Nigerian Prison Service to Nigerian Correctional Service- Nigerian Senate President Godswill Akpabio

The Nigerian Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, mentioned that ever since the Nigerian Prison Service was renamed to Nigerian Correctional Service, there have been an increase in the number of jailbreaks happening in the country.

Akpabio talked in the senate on Tuesday about two laws that need to be agreed upon.

Two bills were brought up for approval: one to replace the law that set up the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission, and another one to replace the Fire Service Act with the Federal Fire and Rescue Service.

Abba Moro, who is the senate minority leader, made a point that changing the name isn’t necessary because the fire service already has the “rescue component” as part of its duties.

He said, “This is something to be looked at. When you are convicted, you are supposed to learn a skill,”

“But since we changed the name to the correctional centre, there have been more jailbreaks.”
