In mid 2000,I went for the mandatory National Youth Service program in northern Nigeria. It was fun and peaceful but I became surprised and shocked when I saw children on the street en mass. They were homeless, no parental care, they had soup bowls in hand scavenging for food. At that point, I knew something was wrong and I was sure this wasn’t right in a nation where it is often said that children are the leaders of tomorrow.
They were tagged “Almajiri”. These children are left in the cold, hot and wet season 365 days to wander around.
From that moment, I knew this part of the country was breeding monsters, bandits who will rise against the State and the Nation at large . You can’t expect a child without parental care, who has been homeless practically all his life to have some sort of human feelings or empathy for anyone. Now we have Boko Haram, Bandits and kidnappers all over that former peaceful state of the North and they are spreading like a wide fire to all other parts of the Nation.
What a breed?
The parents of these children should be prosecuted. This has caused us more harm than good. You can not make babies u won’t fend for it is wrong in heaven and earth.
Disadvantages of breeding Monsters Called “Almajiri”
1) People take advantage of them being Vulnerable to perpetrate evil. E.g. Rig Election, Hoodlum, Thugs , Banditry and most of them are members of the said Terrorist group called Boko haram today.
2)They grow to become beast to the society. They lack sympathy and empathy, no moral training .
3) They migrate en mass from other Sahara desert like Niger Republic and far Northern Countries in the name of Almajiri. Most northern people u see in the country are not Nigerians, causing population explosion on little resources. The man with no direction has nothing to loose, can easily be influenced into becoming a kidnapper or a Bandit.
4) Almost all the uncompleted buildings in the Middle belt, North west and North east are occupied by these illegal immigrants. They were said to be used by politicians for election racketeering before it all went wrong. Now it has become a Monster living with the Nation, sucking our resources and killing our citizens.
