A broad spectrum of leaders and stakeholders, cutting across majority of the State Chapters from the North Central Zone appears to opt out of a proposal to zone the position of the National Chairman of the party to the zone.
Moves to propose a zoning of the National Chairman to North Central zone at yesterday’s Northern PDP meeting was met with stiff resistance by most members.
The leaders were said to be clearly against the proposal which was apparently withdrawn. They pointed out that the zone have served as National Chairman for a cumulative period of about 10years since inception of the PDP produced by Pa Solomon lar, Audu Ogbe, Ahmadu Ali, Barnabas Gemade and Kawu Baraje.
They also argued that the zone is presently occupying the Chairmanship of the Board of Trustees(BOT) of the party as such the BOT chair was quoted to have said the National Chairmanship should go to another zone in the spirit of fairness and equity because he has 3 years left and this was applauded by the stakeholders and leaders who also passed a vote of confidence on the BOT chair.
In the history of the PDP, the North Central zone have also produced the National Legal adviser, in the persons of the late Barristers Victor Kwon, Dave iorhemba and Kabir Usman.
The position of the National Organising Secretary have both been occupied by the North West and North East by Alh. Mairago, Alh. Inuwa, Alh. Abubakar Mustapha MFR and Sen.Abdul Ningi.
Stakeholders unanimously agreed its now time for the North Central to produce the National Organising Secretary PDP because It has an arrays of competent sons and daughters who have the character, capacity and competence to hold this position and its appealing for the support of other zones to clinch it as Its a just, fair and equitable demand.
The zone therefore appeal for the understanding of all party faithfuls across the country to support the North Central caucus in its quest.
The Northern PDP meeting was said to have ended without an agreement as all persons interested for the position of National Chairman were mandated to indicate interest. So far, Sen. Nazifi Gamawa, Gov. Makarfi, Gov. Shema, Barr. Kabiru Turaki, Gov. Dankwambo have obviously indicated interests.
