The masquerades were on essential messages from the ancestors says the community leader as COVID-19: Anambra govt arrests stubborn masquerades, quarantine 29 persons

Some stubborn masquerades have been arrested in Anambra State for refusing to observe the government’s stay-at-home order.

The state government led by Governor Willie Obiano recently ordered a 14-day lockdown of the state as part of measures to contain the spread of the COVID-19 ravaging the world.

But some masquerades, on Monday flouted the order and were arrested at Nkwo Uga, Aguata Local Government Area of the state.

Meanwhile, the state Commissioner for Health, Dr Vincent Okpala, has said that 29 persons who had contact with the state coronavirus index case have been quarantined.

He said the quarantined persons included health workers, relations and business partners of the patient.

 

Okpala in a statement said the state COVID-19 response team, after Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) contacted the government to reveal that a case had been registered in Anambra, searched for the index case from 8pm to 3am.

He said the index case was now in an isolation centre in the state while the hospital where he was registered had been fumigated.
The community leader who was in the company of the masquerades make case on behalf of the masquerades which he said they were on essential messages from the gods on how to appease the land over the pandemic.
