The governors of Ekiti and Jigawa State, Kayode Fayemi and Abubakar Badaru respectively have addressed Ahmadu Haruna Zago, aka Danzago, as the chairman of All Progressives Congress, APC, in Kano.
According to Daily Trust, the recognitions occured on Saturday at a public lecture marking the 21st anniversary of the Aminu Kano Centre for Democratic Studies, Bayero University, Kano.
Mr Fayemi is the chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum.
The Jigawa State governor first mentioned Mr Danzago as Kano APC chairman while recognising the presence of dignitaries on the occasion. As the governor mentioned Mr Danzago’s name, the party chairman waved, drawing cheers across the theatre.
In his address, Mr Fayemi also did the same thing, drawing extensive cheers and mirth from the gathering.
Mr Danzago is the chairman of the Senator Shekarau-led faction of the party, which recently secured judgement against the Governor Abdullahi Ganduje-led faction of the party.
There have been attacks on opposition in the state since the judgement that effectively took out the control of the party from the governor’s grip.
OBSERVERSTIMES recall that a day after securing the epic victory, the state government had sealed off the building with padlocks when the lawyer and his colleagues were working inside their offices.
Following outcry by the Kano branch of the Nigerian Bar Association and media, the office was unsealed on the same day.
But the officials returned in the wee hours of Friday December 3 to seal off the building again.
The repression against opposition elements in the state culminated in attacks and arsons of properties owned by the governor’s opponents.
