The Take It Back Movement, Lagos State chapter, has criticized Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for using the state’s judicial privilege to stifle freedom of association. The group responded to a court order restricting the proposed nationwide protest to two locations in Lagos, Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Park in Ojota and Peace Park in Ketu, from August 1-10.
The movement designated seven convergence points for participating citizens and requested the governor to provide “clean, safe, and air-conditioned buses” to transport protesters to the approved locations. The group warned that failure to provide buses would lead to daily marches and walks to the designated parks.
The statement read, “Your failure to provide buses for the protesters means they would begin march/walk to the court-designated parks in the city on a daily basis for the duration of the #EndBadGovernance direct actions.”
The movement also informed the governor that they would designate additional convergence points and rallies, advising the government to make contingency plans.
This development highlights the ongoing tensions between the government and pro-democracy groups, with the Take It Back Movement vowing to continue their protests despite the court order.
