The Anambra State government has suspended Blossom Fount School in Awka for one month following allegations that the school sold the position of head prefect during a recent student election.

The Commissioner for Education, Professor Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, disclosed the suspension in a statement issued on Saturday. She revealed that the school reportedly demanded N5,000 from each student aspiring to become head prefect in the primary section.

Professor Chuma-Udeh condemned the practice, describing it as an attempt to “sell the psyche of the children to the highest bidder from the cradle.” She emphasized that such actions are unacceptable under the administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo.

The commissioner further stated that an investigation is underway to review the school’s overall management practices. Additional sanctions may be imposed depending on the outcome of the inquiry.
