Seven [7] self confessed witches arraigned for putting 3-year-old girl in bondage

A 60 years old woman identified as Halima Jonta, is among 7 self confessed witches, who were charged to a court in Yola, Adamawa state capital, for allegedly inflicting a 3 years old girl with sickness using demonic powers.

other persons charged along with Jonta were 5 minors between the ages of 4 and 6, and one other woman, identified as Mama Dudu, said to be on the run.

It was gathered that Halima and the minors were brought to the Area Court 1, Yola, by a community leader and Sarkin Mayu Adamawa, Kabiru Garba, after he learnt about the state of health of the sick 3 years old minor.

Speaking to the court, Halima said that she and 2 other women had killed 7 people in the past 7 years she had been a witch.

When asked about the case of the afflicted girl, Jonta said she and the 5 minors, as well as a woman on the run, had bewitched her.

The 5 kid witches confessed to the court that the old woman, Halima and the other woman now at large, asked them to tie the 3 year old spiritually and put a stone in her stomach.

They also revealed to the court that the soul of a dead person was planted in her.

“With the soul of the dead person in her, she can’t live a normal life, “they added.

However, they told the court that they had untied her and removed the stone put inside her but that the curse remained because removing it was beyond their power. They explained that it was the woman on the run who could remove the curse.

Ruling on the matter with particular reference to the alleged kid witches, the Criminal Area Court 1 judge, Umar Gangs, expressed worry that little children still far from adulthood had been introduced into witchcraft.

He ordered that Dudu be found by all means and brought before the court and gave the accused a 24-hour ultimatum to remove all that they had inflicted the 3 years old girl with and restore her to perfect health.
