We write to correct the inaccurate report by Sahara Reporters regarding Hon. Paul Gowon Haruna’s monthly salary and emoluments return initiative to 22 wards in his constituency. The report mistakenly labeled a local well project in Akuba Ward 1, Bassa LGA, as a constituency project funded by Hon. Haruna’s office.
To clarify, Hon. Paul Gowon Haruna’s initiative donates 2 million Naira to wards in Dekina and 1.5 million Naira to wards in Bassa from his monthly salary and emoluments. This is a community-driven development initiative, not a conventional constituency project. Each month, a different ward receives funding to identify and address critical needs in areas like health, education, water supply, and infrastructure.
In March 2024, Akuba Ward 1, Bassa LGA, used the allocated 1.5 million Naira for a well project, reflecting their immediate need for improved water access. This decision exemplifies the initiative’s goal: empowering communities to prioritize and address their specific needs.
We urge media outlets to verify facts and provide accurate reporting, acknowledging the distinction between government-funded constituency projects and personal contributions aimed at local development. Hon. Paul Gowon Haruna remains committed to transparent and inclusive governance, and his initiative demonstrates his dedication to grassroots involvement and sustainable development.
We request the public to disregard the negative media ‘ report and recognize the initiative’s true nature: a personal contribution to empower constituents and promote community-driven development.”
