A non-political organization, Lokoja Progressive Association (LPA), have called for the recall of the senator representing Kogi West senatorial district, Senator Smart Adeyemi.
The association, through it spokesperson, Alhaji Ibrahim Yakubu Usman, in a statement released in Lokoja on Monday, expressed dissatisfaction with Adeyemi’s leadership style, saying he has failed to extend the dividends of democracy to the area when compared with his predecessor in the National Assembly, Senator Dino Melaye.
They lamented that the campaign promises made by Adeyemi has turned out to be mere political gimmicks.
“We will no longer continue to support a representative whose stock in trade is unfulfilled promises, deceitful projects if any, when compared to senator Melaye’s visible and people-oriented constituency projects,
“Lokoja Local Government, with ten wards, cast the highest number of votes for Senator Smart Adeyemi. You will also recall that Adeyami was defeated by Dino in Ijumu local government where he comes from with wide margin.
“Today, Lokoja that gave him the winning votes have become a political dustbin, where both our reps at state and national levels become gold diggers and have forgotten about the our people that worked tirelessly in returning Senator Smart Adeyemi against all odds,” the statement said.
According to LPA, Lokoja witnessed remarkable infrastructural development during the tenure of Adeyemi’s predecessor, Senator Dino Melaye.
“We witnessed infrastructural development, Dino’s constituency projects were spread across board and are still visible today. Even Senator Smart Adeyemi will attest to the fact that Melaye still remain the best.
“We are disappointed that Smart has not fulfilled any of the promises he made, nor did he introduce the empowerment programs he promised our teeming youths and women.
“It is on this note that we want to inform the public that the LPA has started mobilizing our teaming electorate across Lokoja / Kogi Federal Constituency to commence the democratic process of recalling senator Smart Adeyemi.”
The chairman stated further that the agitation is in top gear across the remaining five local governments in Kogi West.
“The remaining five local governments have indicated their intentions to join Lokoja / Kogi Federal Constituency in their efforts to recall the lawmaker,” the chairman added.
