Senator Shehu Sani Claims Vindication as El-Rufai Faces Indictment over Kaduna State Finances

Senator Shehu Sani, who represented Kaduna Central Senatorial District in the 8th National Assembly, has expressed vindication following the indictment of former Governor Nasir El-Rufai by the Kaduna State House of Assembly. An ad hoc committee established by the House to investigate finances, loans, and contracts awarded under El-Rufai’s administration submitted its report, revealing that most loans obtained between 2015 and 2023 were not used for their intended purposes.

The committee, led by Hon. Henry Zacharia, recommended the prosecution of El-Rufai and other indicted officials for abuse of office, money laundering, and plunging Kaduna State into heavy debt. Senator Sani, a human rights activist, took to social media to assert that he was the sole voice speaking out against the looting of public funds during El-Rufai’s administration. He claimed that other politicians were intimidated and silenced, while he faced persecution, attempts on his life, and those of his supporters.

Sani tweeted, “For eight years, I stood alone telling the people of Kaduna State and the country how our state was systematically looted by the Governor and the criminal gang around him.” His statement implies that he has been vindicated by the committee’s findings and recommendations. The development has sparked further scrutiny of El-Rufai’s administration and calls for accountability in Kaduna State’s governance.
