Sanusi Was Bringing Civilization and Western Culture into The Emirate and Preaching Women Liberation” …Prof. Umar

Umar Muhammad Labdo, a Professor of Islamic Political Thoughts at Yusuf Maitama Sule University in Kano, has said that dethroned emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, brought calamity upon himself through his bluntness in condemning custom as well as his involvement in politics.

Speaking to Daily Trust, Labdo said Sanusi’s involvement in politics during the last general elections is against the custom of the emirate. He also accused him of trying to westernise the emirate.

“It is unfortunate that the emirate is being played with by politicians, but Sanusi invited this to himself. He is too vocal against the custom. Traditional rulers have ways of contributing to governance not publicly,” he added.

“He is pro-women against men. He told women to retaliate if their husbands slapped them.

“This is against our culture in Africa. He is too blunt; he talks without considering the feelings of his people”.

Sanusi was removed as emir and replaced by Aminu Ado Bayero on Monday. He was sent to Loko in Nasarawa State, where he will remain in exile.

Sanusi has been calm about the matter, quoting to have said, “He was very, very calm”.
