Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has expressed his disappointment with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stating that the party has failed him and his supporters in the state. Fubara, who was elected governor on the PDP platform a year ago, made this statement during a meeting with members of the Senate Committee on Privatisation at the government house in Port Harcourt on Wednesday.
The governor told Senator Abba Moro, a former Minister of Interior and PDP leader, that he would not adhere to party protocols, noting that the party had let the state down. Fubara stated that he and his supporters in Rivers State are now operating as a movement to defend democracy, rather than functioning as members of a political party.
Fubara’s stance comes after a failed attack on the Presidential Hotel in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, which he believes was an attempt to justify the call for a state of emergency in the state. He questioned why the law seems silent or inactive in taking action against offenders, and clarified that he is not fighting anyone, but rather defending the state against predators and protecting the interests of Rivers State supporters.
