President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, Bishop Wale Oke, has urged the Federal Government to avoid hiding the facts about President Muhammadu Buhari’s wellbeing.
Bishop Oke said that the president is no longer a private individual and that he must be more transparent in order for the Christian community to know how to pray for him.
Oke, who spoke at a press conference in Lagos, said: “We’re hoping for our President’s health; he’s been out of the country for two weeks for medical reasons. However, there are two factors that make us concerned about our President’s trip. We believe the American people are not being told the whole truth.
We demand that the Federal Government and the President put their cards on the table and inform us what is going on with our President. He is no longer a private individual; he is ours, and we will know where to focus our prayers. Stop hiding our President’s health status; tell the whole country, and then we’ll know what to do.”
Bishop Oke was also perplexed as to why the President wanted to go abroad for medical examinations.
“Once again, we are worried that if our President requires medical attention, he will leave the country,” he said. That poses a significant national security threat to us. Does this imply that our President is better in international hands than in ours? What can we do if those people, in an effort to destabilize our country, play games with our President?
Why should our elected officers be going abroad for health care when they can inject money in our health care sector?”
Oke also urged the Federal Government to rise to its number one responsibility of protecting all Nigerians.
He said, “Everybody should be concerned about the security situation of this nation. We want to charge the Federal Government to rise to its number one responsibility of protecting the lives and property of all Nigerians. I want to charge the newly appointed security chiefs to not talk the talk but walk the talk, live up to expectations, bring their skills to bare and let’s deal with insurgency.
“PFN believes that the government should not compromise with bandits because doing so is an admission of government failure. Bandits aren’t supposed to be bargained with; they’re supposed to face the full force of the law. Why would a trustworthy government negotiate with rapists, kidnappers, and murderers? This is inexcusable.
I don’t think the Nigerian government has yet failed; I believe it will rise to the challenge and put the full force of the law to bear on the murderers, rapists, and bandits.”
