The West African Ceramics Limited says it is working hard to ease the sufferings of motorists plying the Ajaokuta-Ofunene -Itobe road in Kogi State. Mr Baskar Rao, General Manager, WACL told North Central Trust that as part of its social responsibility it has completed work on the ASCO bridge that was washed away during last year’s rainy season.
According to him, the company is working on the Oguru to Ofunene road, adding that its major project is the ongoing work on the Ofunene -Ajoaokuta to Itobe bridge, which has been in deplorable condition.
The section of the road leading to Okene, it would be recalled, was awarded to SCOA Motors but the project has since been abandoned with its condition worsening over time. The GM said he was disturbed by the condition of the road because of its importance as a major gateway between the North Southern part of the county. He noted that the days when development was left in the hands of the government alone have gone, adding that though the contract for the repair of the road has since been awarded by the federal government, the company deemed it necessary to offer the needed palliative in reducing the sufferings of Nigerians who travel along the route.
The GM also disclosed that the organisation has concluded arrangements for the take off of its technical college, which would train youths in skills acquisition. He commended President Muhammadu Buhari for his massive investment in agriculture, saying agriculture has the capacity to provide gainful employment for the teeming graduates.
