Lagos All Progressives Congress (APC) rally on Thursday turned bloody as thugs overran the event leading to shooting of a member of the Nigerian Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).

The deceased also was a member of Road APC and participated in the Local Government Could Council election campaign on Thursday which turned rowdy.

He was identified as Samuel Kayode and was the Vice Chairman of NURTW in Lagos.

Source said there was confusion between the marauding thugs and a colleague of his, whom he was trying to shield from being attacked, but he got shot in the ensuing milieu.

The leadership of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Lagos has confirmed the murder of its vice-chairman, Samuel Kayode (aka Ekpo Kinkin).

Spokesman of the Union, Jimoh Buhari said Mr. Kayode alias Ekpo was shot by miscreants at the campaign rally.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Police Command was yet to issue any statement in that regard with respect to details.

NURTW spokesman said:

“He was protecting a fellow politician, Wale Yusuf, from harassment when the gunmen shot him dead.”

“Ekpo Kinkin was a very popular person in this area. He was shot, right in Oriade LCDA secretariat, close to Agboju police station.

“During the stampede caused by the gunshot, a man suspected to have pulled the trigger, was said to have been seen walking casually out of the premises.”
However, the police command in Lagos is yet to confirm the report and release details on the sad development.
