THE UNEDITED  SPEECH BY THE Ag. DIRECTOR GENERAL, NATIONAL BROADCASTING COMMISSION, PROF. ARMSTRONG IDACHABA, AT THE PRESS BRIEFING / UNVEILING OF THE NEW AMENDMENT OF THE 6TH EDITION OF THE NBC CODE HELD ON TUESDAY AUGUST 4, 2020, AT THE RADISSON HOTEL, IKEJA, LAGOS STATE.
Permit me on behalf of the NBC to welcome you to this event. I want to especially welcome the Honorable Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, for being here today. Barka da Sallah Sir.
Honourable minister Sir, Distinguished guest, permit me also to commend the Federal Government for it’s interest in the effective functioning of the Broadcasting Industry.
A lot of activities and initiatives aimed at repositioning the industry have happened under this administration. This includes the Reform Implemention of the NBC, which came out with several laudable interventions, the Digital Switch Over project which the Minister has pursued with exemplary conviction and purpose, as well as the post-covid intervention for the Broadcasting industry and the creative Industry in general amongst several others.
We at the Commission remain committed to the laudable objectives of broadcasting in Nigeria, principally, of which is the promotion of access to information by Nigerians, creating diversities of programming and offering opportunities for employment and wealth in the Broadcast industry in other to advance the ideals of democracy and good governance through broadcasting in Nigeria.
I believe that as media practitioners you have been following some of the initiatives hence the need for this parley, which we hope will bring you up to speed and answer questions that may be agitating your minds.
