President Tinubu Appoints Dr. Temitope Ilori as First Female Director-General of NACA
President Bola Tinubu has issued a directive to recover funds from civil servants who continue to draw salaries despite relocating abroad. The President, speaking at the 2024 Civil Service Week awards ceremony hosted by the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HOCSF), expressed strong dissatisfaction with the fraudulent practice.
Represented by Sen. George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), President Tinubu highlighted instances where civil servants relocated overseas without formally resigning, yet continued to receive salaries. He emphasized the need for immediate corrective action, demanding that not only the offenders but also their supervisors and department heads be held accountable for enabling such misconduct under their supervision.
“I was struck by revelations from the Head of the Civil Service regarding employees drawing salaries while residing abroad,” remarked President Tinubu, adding, “Those responsible must refund the misappropriated funds to the government treasury.”
Acknowledging the challenges faced by the civil service, President Tinubu reassured attendees of his administration’s commitment to enhancing welfare and addressing structural deficiencies to optimize service delivery across ministries.
In related proceedings, Dr Folasade Yemi-Esan, HOCSF, announced the distribution of prizes, including a brand-new luxury SUV and residential properties, to outstanding civil servants. The event also saw significant contributions from entities like the Nigeria Customs Service, which pledged support through vehicle donations to further incentivize exemplary service.
