PDP Moves to Punish Ex-G5 Governors for Anti-Party Conduct During Elections

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is taking significant steps to address allegations of anti-party activities involving Nyesom Wike, the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, and other former governors known as the G-5. The PDP’s National Disciplinary Committee, led by former Foreign Affairs Minister Tom Ikimi, is conducting an investigation based on reports from the National Working Committee.

The G-5, which includes Wike and former governors Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), Samuel Ortom (Benue), and Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), reportedly opposed the party’s directives and undermined its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, during the 2023 elections. The discord arose from the former National Chairman Iyorchia Ayu’s refusal to step down for a southern candidate, leading to a rift within the party.

Ibrahim Abdullahi, the PDP Deputy National Publicity Secretary, confirmed that Wike and the other former governors are being summoned to explain their alleged roles in the party’s electoral challenges. He emphasized that the formation of two committees—one for reconciliation and another for disciplinary actions—aims to restore order and prevent future issues.

Abdullahi noted that the investigation into Wike does not imply division within the party but is intended to enforce discipline among its members. He stated that if Wike is being summoned, it is likely that the other G-5 members will also be called to account for their actions during the elections.
