Barely 24 hours to the scheduled 98th National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party, the National Working Committee of the party has hurriedly passed a vote of confidence on the embattled acting national chairman of the party, Ambassador Iliya Damagum.

According to reports from the National Headquarters of the party, the pro Governor Wike group, who were rattled by the position of the North Central Leaders of the party hurriedly passed the confidence vote in order to secure the continues stay of Damagum as the acting national chairman.

Recall that, and in line with section 47 of the PDP Constitution (2017 as amended) party leaders from the North Central Zone of the party had earlier in the week nominated the former Governor of Benue State, Senator Gabriel Suswam as a replacement for the ousted leader from the same zone, Senator Iyorchia Ayu.

To further strengthen the position of the North Central Zone, it may interest Nigerians, especially members of the PDP to know that, the ousted National Chairman of the Party, Senator Iyorchia Ayu, who was pursuing his removal in court has graciously withdrew his appeal, thereby creating a vacancy for the office of National Chairman of the Party.

Unsettled by this decision, the former Governor of Rivers state and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief Nyesom Wike, who is bent on ensuring control of the party, allegedly induced members of the NWC with $30 thousand yesterday in order to carry out the confidence vote ahead of the NEC meeting of the party.
