At least 11 individuals lost their lives in a harrowing attack by terrorists on Sunday night in Zamfara State, with 20 women and an unspecified number of children abducted, according to reports.
The terrorists, estimated to be around 250 in number, descended upon Gidan Zuma village situated in the Bungudu Local Government Area, leaving a trail of devastation in their wake.
Local communities are now gripped by fear, with one resident expressing the constant threat posed by the bandits, lamenting the delayed response of security forces.
“They (terrorists) can strike at any time, and security forces would arrive only after they’ve left.”
The resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, further stated, “They kidnapped my wife with our little kid. Only God knows how they’re faring, considering the hot weather and the Ramadan fast.
“They shot and killed 11 persons, among them my only brother, while on neighbourhood patrol as a volunteer vigilante. They forced 20 women and a lot of children into the bush,” he lamented.
