Oshiomhole’s corruption file found in Magu’s house, faces arrest

sacked APC chair summons legal team, suspends support for Ize-Iyamu_
The sacked national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, has summoned his legal team for guidance as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), under the new leadership of Mohammed Umar, swoops in on high profile politicians, including Oshiomhole, whose files were found in the home of Ibrahim Magu, the suspended EFCC chairman, last week.
The security source who spoke with OBSERVERS TIMES on condition of anonymity said the new EFCC boss, Umar, has commenced preliminary investigation into all the cases contained in the files that were recovered from his predecessor’s house after a search.
Recall that the former EFCC boss was said to have been shielding some persons, especially high profile politicians, from justice, with several tactics designed to delay their trial.
Coincidentally, Oshiomhole‘s arrest is coming at a time his friend and candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, is entangled in a N700m money laundering case preferred against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The trial has suffered delays due to Ize-Iyamu’s absence in court, even as the presiding judge, Justice Mohammed Garba, had earlier validated the charges against him.
Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu is the first defendant in the suit No. FHC/BE21C/ 2016 filed by the EFCC, who accused the defendants of conspiring among themselves to commit the offence in March 2015, alleging that they took possession and control of the funds without any contract award.
At the last court session, the judge rejected the oral request for a prolonged adjournment of the case by the Counsel to Ize-Iyamu, who argued that his client will not disobey the order of the court.
Justice Garba stated that the last time somebody was here, he (the judge) made an order for the accused person to appear in court or face arrest.
Since 2016, Bishop Dr., Osadolor Ochei JP, a human rights activist and anti-crusader based in Benin City, has vigorously pursued the corruption case he initiated via a petition to the EFCC, alleging that Oshiomhole violated relevant sections of the constitution when he acquired a sprawling city of mansions in his home town, Iyamho, worth over N10 billion, while in office, amongst other allegations.
Efforts to reach Oshiomhole to comment on the development proved abortive, as he was said to be meeting with his lawyers for guidance.
“Oshiomhole’s associate who wouldn’t want his name mentioned, said “the former APC national chairman is very busy at the moment. He will not talk to journalists now. He has even suspended all political engagements for now, including his support for Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu’s campaigns.”
According to an Edo-based political analyst, Mr Egbon Usoh, “The imminent arrest of Oshiomhole will mark the end of Ize-Iyamu’s ambition to be governor of Edo State.
“Oshiomhole as we all know is the force behind Ize-Iyamu in the ongoing electioneering campaign, though that force has been weakened substantially since his sack as the national chairman of the APC, so Oshiomhole’s arrest should worry the Ize-Iyamu’s camp.”

Allegations of sexual harassment and abuse of power have surfaced against Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina, Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), OBSERVES TIMES.

The accusations claim Prof. Fasina harassed a married staff member, Mrs. Folasade Adebayo, for sexual favors and is now using the Department of State Services (DSS) to intimidate her family and associates.
According to sources, Mrs. Adebayo, after facing repeated pressure from the Vice Chancellor, recorded their phone conversations as evidence. Following this, Prof. Fasina is allegedly attempting to retrieve the recordings by targeting individuals he believes may possess them.
In a recent incident, armed DSS personnel reportedly invaded the Ado Ekiti residence of Dr. Yemi Agbeleoba, Mrs. Adebayo’s younger brother. Dr. Agbeleoba was taken into custody and remains detained by the DSS in Ekiti.
A source claims to be in possession of the audio recording, confirming its authenticity and stating it captures the Vice Chancellor pleading for a sexual relationship, which Mrs. Adebayo refused. The source further suggests they fear similar repercussions from Prof. Fasina and the DSS. These allegations raise serious concerns about potential abuse of power and the weaponization of security agencies in a personal matter.

They’re Planning To Arrest Me, El-Rufai Speaks Out on Arrest Fears, Vows to Return to Nigeria Amid Allegations of Intimidation

By Mike Odeh James, Kaduna.

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has expressed concerns regarding rumors of a possible arrest and detention, asserting that he has no plans to go into exile. In a post on X on Tuesday, El-Rufai revealed that he believes his adversaries are attempting to force him out of the country.

Currently residing in Egypt, El-Rufai responded to a loyal supporter, Imran Wakili, regarding the alleged plot against him. He stated his intention to return to Nigeria before February 20, emphasizing, “I will spend more time in Nigeria than ever before.”

El-Rufai claimed to have received intimidation and threats through friends, family, and political associates aimed at coercing him into self-imposed exile. “Silence is no longer golden. Inaction has never been an option,” he declared, reiterating his commitment to political engagement despite past experiences of arrest and detention for expressing dissenting views.

Reflecting on the nature of political strife, he remarked, “The arrest, detention, and torture of perceived political enemies are nothing new in human affairs,” and stressed that political life continues beyond such challenges. He affirmed his intention to return for the launch of former President Ibrahim Babangida’s memoirs, scheduled for February 20, stating, “We depend on no one but Allah. We fear no mortal but Almighty Allah.”

El-Rufai’s statements come amid ongoing tensions with supporters of President Bola Tinubu and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), with the former governor recently criticizing the party for lacking internal democracy, highlighting the absence of meetings among its governing organs for the past two years.

Supreme Court Ruling Doesn’t Settle Rivers Speakership Dispute – Falana

Published

By John James, Lagos.
Legal expert Femi Falana, SAN, has clarified the Supreme Court’s recent decision regarding the Rivers State House of Assembly, stating that it did not determine the legitimate Speaker. The court dismissed Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s appeal against the Martin Amaewhule-led faction, but this dismissal was based on the governor’s counsel withdrawing the suit, not on the merits of the case itself.
“When an appeal is dismissed not on merit but on the basis of withdrawal by the appellant, the question of celebration doesn’t arise,” Falana explained on Channels Television’s Politics Today and monitored by OBSERVERS TIMES, He emphasized that the governor withdrew the appeal because the issues were no longer relevant, as the 2024 budget proposal at the heart of the initial suit had already been passed into law. “The court did not determine who is a speaker or who is not a speaker,” Falana asserted.
The Rivers Assembly has been plagued by internal conflict since 2023, when a large number of lawmakers loyal to former governor Nyesom Wike defected from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). This led to a split in the Assembly, with the Amaewhule faction challenged by a rival group led by Victor Oko-Jumbo, who is aligned with Governor Fubara. The governor has been conducting state business with the Oko-Jumbo faction.
Falana further argued that the 27 lawmakers who defected to the APC lost their seats, citing legal precedent. He also noted that a quorum for legislative functions, excluding the impeachment of the governor, can be formed with just three members.
