Its saddened to read some replies from one of my earlier post as boosted by Nasarawa Mirror, “OPINION: One Day, Will They Say ‘No Christian Even Fit To Be Deputy Governor In Nasarawa’?”. The replies truly shows how malnourished and deficient most of our youths are in Nasarawa State to even read and know why the state was created and I don’t blame them, some are lied to believe such fallacy. I think the earlier we educate our people on issues regarding religion tolerance the better for a common front.
Have you ever imagine if this things where the other way round, where the Christians are the once dominating the entire system, would things be the same as this?
While I hate to discuss issue of religion which I consider more personal than general, I am forced to write due to some concerns and misconception of some young youths who are just growing up.
Was Nasarawa State actually created to compensate the Muslims? Or was it the agitation by the people of the upper Plateau to bring governance close to the people?
Did Abacha actually put the capital in Lafia as against Akwanga because he want to compensate the kanuris or it’s the hand work of some few who are privileged to be in the national conference?
Are you aware that the earlier proposed name for the state was actually the Middle Belt state with capital in Akwanga? The NPN Elders submitted a memorandum for the creation of Middle Belt state with capital in Akwanga out of the former Plateau State while the NPP Elders submitted a memorandum for the creation of Nasarawa State with capital in Lafia.
With this dangerous mentality and concern laid by some youth, I think the state government and the entire youth sector needs to really call on the attention of the youth to educate them on the Nasarawa State Union and the need to think development rather than this mentality of this belong to us or them.
I also read as some gave instances of the happenings in Plateau and Benue States, but I ask again, should I use Sokoto to compare with Nasarawa, or should I use Bauchi to compare with Nasarawa? Are we truly together as a family in this state?
