Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has criticized President Bola Tinubu in a keynote address at the Chinua Achebe Leadership Forum, calling him “Baba-go-slow”.
During the address, Obasanjo highlighted the state of Nigeria, attributing the country’s challenges to leadership failure and state capture. He emphasized the negative impact of corruption and immorality on the nation, leading to chaos, insecurity, and underdevelopment.
Obasanjo said “Nigeria Situation: As we can see and understand, Nigeria’s situation is bad. The more the immorality and corruption of a nation, the more the nation sinks into chaos, insecurity, conflict, discord, division, disunity, depression, youth restiveness, confusion, violence, and
underdevelopment.
Obasanjo expressed his disappointment in the current leadership under Tinubu’s watch, referring to Nigeria as a failing state. He acknowledged the need for honest leadership and called for a change in the country’s governance.
Drawing from Chinua Achebe’s work, Obasanjo emphasized that Nigeria’s main problem lies in the failure of its leaders to uphold the values of true leadership, rather than in the character or resources of the nation. He called for a shift towards responsible and exemplary leadership to address the challenges facing Nigeria.
