The Northern Ethnic Youth Group Assembly (NEYGA) has criticized the Police Service Commission (PSC) for its alleged shortcomings in selecting suitable candidates for the police force. The group has praised Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for his initiatives to improve the recruitment process.
In a statement released by spokesperson Ibrahim Dan-musa, NEYGA expressed worries about the PSC’s history of recruiting individuals with questionable backgrounds, damaging the police’s reputation. The group commended the Inspector General for addressing these issues and encouraged him to persevere despite negative media coverage.
NEYGA has called for immediate reforms within the PSC, including the possibility of dissolution if necessary. The group urged President Tinubu to ignore statements from PSC employees who have not fulfilled their duties.
“We cannot afford to have unqualified individuals in the police force. The Inspector General of Police deserves recognition for his efforts to revamp the recruitment process,” the statement emphasized.
