A North Central group, known as ‘APC Integrity group’ has drummed its support for the former governor of Benue State, George Akume to clinch the National Chairmanship of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The group further endorsed Akume who is also the currrnt Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, as the date for the National convention of the party draw close.

In a press statement which was signed by the National Coordinator of the group, Alhaji Musa Musawa on Friday, decided.

“As the date fixed by the National convention of our great party, the APC edges closer and concerned about the need to have a visionary, idea minded, experienced and goal getting leader as the chairman of our party, we the above mentioned group, the North Central APC integrity group endorses Sen.

“Leadership in all climes of the world must be seen to be recruited.

In total fulfilment of our role in the nurturation and growth of this party, we insist all members must be allowed and heard in the leadership recruitment process of the party.

“After careful search altruistically and without sentiments, we have discovered that the man that possesses the best qualities and democratic credentials to reposition, nurture and unite the party is George Akume, the present Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs.

Without any shade of doubt, George Akume has the populist touch and he has always canvassed the need for politicians to make concessions and maintain party loyalty.

“No wonder, he is closer, and his accesibility to all party members accross the six geo political zones stands him out.

“Unlike other politicians who prefer desperate schemes, George Akume has always been keen on fence mending compromises that would be of benefit to the party, APC both at the State and National levels.

“George Akume is not a man given to empty boasts and without any iota of doubt, he has the tactical and strategic advantage towards leading APC going forward.

We are hereby calling on George Akume to immediately listen to millions of voices asking him to come out and contest the post of the National Chairman of our great party to save it from total collapse.

“We hereby endorse George Akume as our prefered candidate to be the chairman of our great APC and victory is assured.”

Meanwhile, since Comrade Adams Oshiomhole was removed as the party’s National Chairman, Yobe State governor, Mai Mala Buni in caretaker capacity has been working to ensure substantive Chairman of the ruling party before 2023 general election.
