Although there is a need for the street lights to always go on when they are supposed to, many Nigerians do not buy the idea of Kano State governor appointing a Special Assistant on Street Lights.

Alhaji Umar Ganduje has just appointed Salisu Kingdom as his Senior Special Assistant on Kano State Street Lights.

In a letter dated February 13, 2020, from the Kano State Government, Salisu kingdom was notified of the appointment. The letter, however, said that the appointed started on February 10, 2020.

Part of the letter reads, “This is to formally convey to you that His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kano State, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje OFR has approved your appointment as Senior Special Assistant, Street Lights 111 with effects from 10th February 2020.

Your appointment into this position of trust and confidence was made upon a careful assessment of your credentials, track record of performance, dedication to duty, vast experience, patriotic disposition and expressed loyalty.

“It is hoped that you will employ these qualities to bear towards ensuring effective discharge of your assigned duties.”

But some Nigerians believe that Governor Umar Ganduje oughts to cut the cost of governance in order to have more funds available for capital expenditure.

In this group of people is popular  Nollywood Actress Kate Henshawwho expressed her disappointment at the appointment saying that it is coming when she thought she had seen it all.

This isn’t the first time a Nigerian Governor is making a controversial appointment. In December 2017, former Governor of Imo State, Senator Rochas Okorocha appointed his biological sister as Commissioner for Happiness and Couples’ Fulfillment.
