Nigerians have criticized the vice-presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Kashim Shettima, for saying that the APC presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, has leadership qualities possessed by three former Presidents of the country.
Recall that Mr Shettima had said that the APC presidential flagbearer possesses leadership qualities such as ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo’s work ethic, Sani Abacha’s hospitality, and Muhammadu Buhari’s commitment.
Reacting, some Twitter users condemned Mr Shettima for comparing his principal Mr Abacha who allegedly stole $5bn and Mr Buhari who allegedly destroyed Nigeria’s economy.
Disappointed at the comparison, a Twitter user, @eftn8, says Mr Shettima shouldn’t have compared Tinubu with a man who murdered Ken Saro-Wiwa.
The user said: “This is the legacy of Abacha. He stole BILLIONS. He murdered Ken Saro-Wiwa and anyone who even dared to whisper against him.
Today, Sept 15, Shettima has said he wants to continue the ‘hospitality’ of Abacha. Don’t wait for ‘Had I known’. Now you do.”
Another user, @topemidayo, said he quit supporting Mr Tinubu after listening to the talks of Mr Shettima.
The user said: “This is where I draw the line. I don’t think it’s healthy for me or anyone around me to keep on being BATified.
I’ve been pondering over this crazy talk by Shettima since yesterday and all I can say is WOW. I’m sorry if my decision disappoints you, but I no longer support Tinubu.”
Another user, @firstladyship, said Nigerians need to run for their lives, saying a human that possesses two qualities would only silence them by all means.
The user said: “Shettima saying Nigeria needs Abacha’s hospitality, & Buhari’s commitment, & then adding that Tinubu embodies the 2 qualities, that’s a threat to your lives.
“Run for your dear lives by rejecting those who want to grab power & silence u by all means necessary. You’ve been warned!”
Advising Nigerians that Mr Shettima is sending a coded warning which they needed to adhere to, a user, @iykimo, said: “Abacha stole $5bn. GMB destroyed the economy, divided Nigerians into 97% vs 5% & supervised insecurity in 35 states. Shettima is warning Nigerians codedly.”
A user, @nigeriasbest, alleged some Nigerians are only ignorant and they are only hoping they would benefit while others suffer.
The user said: “The thing with Nigerians is that they know Tinubu/Shettima will be a disaster. But somehow they hope they will benefit whilst others suffer…. It never seems to occur to them that they might be the victims.. Eternal optimists….”
Another user, @novieverest, described Tinubu/Shettima presidency as a combination of poor governance and looting.
“Shettima – Tinubu is the combination of Abacha and Buhari. That is a combination of looting and poor governance. God abeg,” the user said.
