The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has announced that vehicle owners in Nigeria must register for the digitalized Central Motor Registry (e-CMR) by July 29, 2024, at a cost of N5,375 per vehicle. The e-CMR is an online repository of motor vehicle data designed to support police investigations and combat vehicle-related crimes.
To register, vehicle owners will need to create a profile on the e-CMR portal using their National Identification Number (NIN), email address, phone number, and house address. The vehicle’s license number, chassis number, and engine number are also required. Payment can be made online using an ATM card.
The NPF has stated that the enforcement of the e-CMR is necessary to ensure a safer and more secure environment for vehicle ownership and to prevent the sale of stolen vehicles. The transition to a digitalized system will streamline documentation and verification processes for vehicle ownership and related transactions.
Vehicle owners are advised to register within the next 14 days to avoid any issues with the authorities. The NPF remains committed to leveraging technology and strategic approaches to enhance public safety and national security.
