Joe Igbokwe, a prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has expressed growing dissatisfaction with Nigeria’s economic situation since President Bola Tinubu took office. Once a staunch supporter of Tinubu during the 2023 elections, Igbokwe has recently become increasingly critical of the administration.
In a Facebook post on Friday, Igbokwe highlighted a troubling report from the World Bank indicating that Nigeria’s currency is the weakest in Africa. He argued that the country’s vast resources and potential do not align with this unfavorable assessment.
Igbokwe attributed the currency crisis to widespread nepotism and a self-serving approach to governance, questioning why “the currency of the most endowed and populous country in Africa, with its educated populace, fertile land, favorable climate, and abundant talent, is the weakest on the continent.” He lamented, “Almost everybody is working for themselves; nobody is working for this great country,” emphasizing the disheartening reality faced by many Nigerians.
In September, Igbokwe also voiced his frustrations regarding the new electricity tariff, urging President Tinubu to take action to address the issue.
