The Nigeria Community Action for Resilience and Economic Stimulus (NG-CARES) has reported that over nine million Nigerians have benefited from its initiatives aimed at poverty eradication and economic transformation. Dr. Abdulkarim Obaje, the National Coordinator of NG-CARES, made this announcement during a recent event in Akure, where he highlighted the program’s success and its restructuring to better serve vulnerable populations.
Obaje noted that the initiative has garnered significant interest from state governors, leading to a request for additional financing from the World Bank, which has been approved at $500 million. He emphasized the positive feedback from beneficiaries who have shared their experiences of how NG-CARES has positively impacted their lives.
The program has received substantial support from state governments, which have invested over N150 billion, reflecting a strong commitment to its goals. Obaje called for increased funding from both federal and state governments to further support the initiative and assist the impoverished population in Nigeria.
Dr. Lire Ersado, the Task Team Leader of NG-CARES at the World Bank, indicated that the organization has invested $750 million in the program, contributing to its success in improving the lives of many Nigerians.
