Former Senate Leader, Senator Ali Ndume (APC, Borno South), has advised Daniel Bwala, the newly appointed Special Adviser on Media and Public Communications to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to urgently seek forgiveness from Vice President Kashim Shettima. Ndume’s call comes in light of Bwala’s decision to leave the All Progressives Congress (APC) following Shettima’s selection as Tinubu’s running mate, a move Bwala attributed to religious differences.
In a statement released yesterday, Ndume commended President Tinubu for his magnanimity and inclusiveness in appointing Bwala, describing it as a rare display of leadership. “I wish to commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing Daniel Bwala as his Special Adviser on Public Communication and Media. This gesture deserves serious applause, particularly considering Bwala’s past roles,” Ndume stated.
Bwala, who previously served as a spokesperson for the presidential campaign of ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar, had been a vocal critic of Tinubu and the APC during the 2023 elections. However, his appointment signals the administration’s commitment to inclusivity and reconciliation.
Representing Bwala’s senatorial district, Ndume encouraged the appointee to collaborate closely with Vice President Shettima to advance the “Renewed Hope” agenda of Tinubu’s administration. “You should work with the Vice President closely as your second principal to promote the renewed hope agenda of Mr. President,” he advised.
Ndume also urged Bwala to emulate long-time Tinubu allies such as Sunday Dare, Bayo Onanuga, Hadiza Bala Usman, and Nuhu Ribadu, highlighting their effective and respectful communication of government policies. “These individuals defend and market Tinubu’s policies backed by facts and figures without being abusive or offensive. Bwala should adopt a similar approach,” he added.
Additionally, the senator stressed the importance of grassroots engagement for effective public communication. “Charity begins at home. You must connect with the grassroots to ensure the administration’s message resonates with the people. I wish you success in your new assignment,” Ndume concluded.
President Tinubu’s appointment of Bwala, along with other key officials, reflects a commitment to leveraging diverse perspectives for the administration’s success.
