Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, representing Borno South, has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to dismiss additional underperforming ministers to expedite the implementation of his “Renewed Hope” agenda for Nigeria.
In a statement issued on Saturday in Abuja, Ndume welcomed the recent reshuffling of the federal cabinet and the establishment of a new ministry for regional development to oversee all regional commissions in the country.
He remarked, “More needs to be done because some ministers are still missing in action.”
It is worth noting that President Tinubu reshuffled his cabinet on Wednesday, dismissing six ministers and appointing seven others, while also swapping the portfolios of ten additional ministers.
Ndume, a former Chief Whip of the Senate, further called on President Tinubu to convene a national economic summit aimed at generating home-grown solutions to the country’s economic challenges.
He proposed that the summit be led by notable figures such as former Finance Minister Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, former Education Minister Oby Ezekwesili, Mansur Muktar, Akinwumi Adesina, Aruma Oteh, and Tope Fasua.
“This national economic summit should be spearheaded by these distinguished Nigerians, who can provide recommendations that are more suitable for our context, rather than relying on the harsh prescriptions of the IMF and World Bank that burden ordinary citizens,” Ndume stated.
He expressed confidence that if the recommendations are sound, President Tinubu would implement them, which could significantly benefit the nation.
Additionally, the senator commended President Tinubu’s efforts to reduce the cost of governance amid economic challenges and encouraged other branches of government to follow suit.
