NASC: NILDS DG,Professor Sulaiman Tasks States On Blanket Autonomy For State Assembly Service Commissions.

Director General,National Institute For Legislative And Democratic Studies NILDS and former Minister of National Planning,Professor Abubakar Olarenwaju Sulaiman has called on state Governor’s to allow unfettered autonomy for State Assembly Service Commission, saying this is the only opportunity that guaranteed a participatory democracy.

Professor Olarenwaju Sulaiman handed this advise at a five day 8th National Conference organised by National Assembly Service Commission NASC inconjunction with States Assembly Service Commission holding at Sheu Musa Yar’adua Hall, Murtala Mohammed square in Kaduna.

He said Nigeria democracy had gone beyond it’s nascency,as the only way to demonstrate the current democratic feat is not only adminstrative autonomy, but also holistic and financial independence to States commision.

The former Minister urged the State Governments to take a cue from the National Assembly Service Commission NASC whose administrative and financial autonomy had become a reference point to other democracies.

He said NILDS will not hesitate in it’s continuous clamour for both legislative and the state commision’s autonomy,as that is the beauty of democracy in both developed and developing countries.

The Political Scientist said the theme of this year’s National Conference was part of the ressolve of the current commision under the leadership of Engr Ahmed Kadi Amshi, to ensured both the establishment of States Assembly Service Commission and to function with it’s full autonomy.

He commended NASC for the giant strides, saying the response of State Governments will be the bane of Nigeria democratic adventure and its successes.
