The Nasarawa State University, Keffi will start offering engineering programs by the 2021/ 2022 academic session.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sulaiman Muhammad, made the disclosure during the inauguration of a 13 member steering committee for the establishment of the faculty in the institution.
According to him, the faculty will start with three departments; Civil & Structural Engineering; Electrical & Electronics Engineering; and Process Engineering.
Mr Mohammed also disclosed that Governor Abdullahi Sule had donated a complete school structure at Gudi town under Akwanga LGA for the kick-off of the faculty.
The VC said: “On an assumption of office as Vice-Chancellor of this great University, we came up with a 5-year action plan that will serve as a roadmap on how to move this university forward under my stewardship.
“Central to the action plan is to expand the science-based programmes of the University to meet the 60:40 ratios as stipulated by NUC and also to meet the manpower needs of the State/Nation in the areas of Healthcare and Engineering services.
It’s on this basis that the idea to establish a college of Medicine and Health Sciences and Faculty of Engineering was given birth to”.
Members of the committee include Prof. M. S. Haruna, the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive of National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure, NASENI; a Professor of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Prof. Ali Musa Kundiri; a renowned professor of civil engineering from the University of Maiduguri; amongst many others.
