The NANS condemns Sule Lamido’s unfounded criticism directed at the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu. Says Lamido’s remarks are not only unjustified, but they also display a significant lack of patriotism.
In a statement issued by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Comrade Lucky Emonefe, the NANS President, addressed the issue.
The statement reads: “NANS is concerned by the recent unguarded and unwarranted remarks credited to Sule Lamido, former Governor of Jigawa State and a supposed elder statesman.
“The National Association of Nigerian Students NANS, which is the apex umbrella body of all students organization in Nigeria deem it necessary to unequivocally condemns Sule Lamido’s baseless criticism of the National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu. Sule Lamido’s vituperations are not only unwarranted but grossly unpatriotic, especially at a time when our nation requires constructive engagement and a united front to confront and tackle the multifaceted challenges bedeviling the nation.
“It is highly regrettable that a man of Sule Lamido’s status would stoop so low to peddling unsubstantiated claims against an individual who has demonstrated unwavering commitment to ensuring Nigeria’s peace and security. Such reckless statements are not only a disservice to the progress being made but also an affront to the collective effort of well meaning Nigerians who are working towards rebuilding the nation.
“NANS find it necessary to remind Sule Lamido and his co-travelers casting aspersions on the current security challenges plaguing the nation to reflect and remember that it’s as a result of consequences of the 16 years of neglect and maladministration under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). It’s worth noting that during the PDP years of misrule, critical security apparatuses were undermined, funds earmarked for defense were misappropriated, and the foundation for today’s problems was laid.
“NANS particularly highlight the egregious misappropriation of over $2.1 billion under the watch of Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd), who served as NSA during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan. This scandal deprived our armed forces of the resources needed to combat insurgency and secure our borders, leaving the country vulnerable and setting us back by decades in our security architecture.
“NANS are proud to state that under the dynamic leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the strategic guidance and Coordination of Mallam Nuhu Ribadu as NSA, Nigeria is on the right track to surmount its challenges. Despite inheriting a multitude of crises, this administration has displayed the determination and capability to confront the issues head-on with transparency and accountability.
“We call on patriotic and well meaning Nigerians to disregard the divisive and unproductive rhetoric of individuals like Sule Lamido. Instead, we urge every citizen to rally behind the government’s efforts to restore peace, security, and prosperity to our nation.
“Nigeria’s resilience is unmatched, and we firmly believe that with the renewed vigor of the Tinubu administration, our beloved country will emerge victorious over the challenges it faces. We envision a prosperous Nigeria where every citizen will thrive and enjoy the dividends of good governance.
“Let us not allow divisive voices to distract us from this noble path. Together, we will secure the future of our nation.
